Colonics & Parasites
The book ‘The Tao of Detox’ ( the way of detoxing ) was published around the turn of the century and it was this book that lifted the veil over the hows and why’s of detoxing. I did two detoxing courses in Thailand back then and both businesses used the regime outlined in the ‘The Tao of Detox’. It provided the needed structure ,and played a very significant part, in the subsequent popularity of detoxing.
The author considered colonics to be a critical part of the detoxing process, but we have to keep in mind the science behind detoxing was much more vague back then.
One of the primary reasons colonics were deemed so important was the belief that toxins get released into our waste system so we want to keep that system flowing to transport those toxins out of us. The way I see it, the main problem is more accurately understood as accumulated debris, most of which gets burnt for energy, or recycled into something useful, with only the actual toxic stuff being escorted out of the body.
As, for most of us, there’s likely very little actual toxic matter to be dealt with, and it’s not the main issue anyway, I no longer consider colonics to be absolutely needed.
Personally, I still do colonics when I detox ( probably on average once every 18 months ) because if I’m going to do it I might as well do it as well as I can. However, I don’t put the same emphasis on colonics as I did previously - I do 3 or 4 as opposed to 7 or 8 - and primarily do them because I want to use psyllium husk, bentonite clay, activated charcoal etc. Without a few colonics that stuff is going to sit inside and cause constipation.
The Tao of Detox recommends drinking psyllium husk and bentonite clay mixed with water every 4 or 5 hours.
Neither have any calories and the clay carries a negative ion charge which binds to positive ions ( toxins ) while the husk swells up with water acting as something like a broom through our intestines. The husk also keeps our waste system functioning plus does give us a bit of a full feeling negating hunger to some degree.
I mix things up a bit often using diatomaceous earth in place of the clay - or a bit of both - and I often add activated charcoal in too.
It's up to the individual, and the time they have available whether they incorporate colonics into their detoxes.
We don't charge any extra, as we just provide the colonic board and the equipment. Anyone can easily do them on their own in their hotel bathroom. In our opinion, detoxes beyond a 3 day detox should incorporate the husk/ clay drinks and colonics. If we’re making that investment in time, effort and $$ then of course we want to do it thoroughly. However, we’re still achieving a lot with a 3 day, non colonic, detox.
I see it like this; imagine an overflowing, smelly trash can. We can quite easily empty out 80% of it and have improved the situation considerably by doing so. That last 20% takes about the same effort as removing the 80% did and it’s not like we’re going to be keeping a shiny clean trash can for long anyway, so is the extra effort worth it?
Depends on the individual. It would seem logical to a deep, thorough clean as the first detox - who knows what issues, or potential issues, we’re solving by doing so - and then perhaps a couple less intensive ones over the next 5 years or so.
As is apparent, it's not an exact science. The clear, number one, priority is activating autophagy, and sustaining it at high intensity for a number of days.
Parasites
We all accumulate worms and parasites. Possibly, if we live our whole lives in an apartment on the 10th floor and eat only processed, or well cooked, food we may not but, generally, we do have them within us.
For whatever reason, the need to occasionally de worm has been forgotten in many societies but a quick google about it, and the potential health consequences from them, will show it’s something that deserves to be taken seriously. To go down a ‘rabbit hole’, look into the evidence suggesting a correlation between parasites and some types of cancer.
I don’t know all that much about it, all I know is it’s worth nuking those ecosystems within now and again. Swamps are not desirable.
What I am confident is accurate is that we do eradicate them more thoroughly if we ‘nuke’ them while we’re in ketosis. Once upon a time I looked into it, it made sense to me, so that’s what I do. There’s numerous doctors and scientists online who can explain it much better than I can.
There’s more to it than this, but simplistically; if we want to lay poison for the rats and mice infesting our house when is the better time to do this ? When they have ample alternative food or when that food is no longer there and they’re hungry?
We recommend worm/parasite eradication alongside detoxes and is included. Individuals can opt out if they want.
A benefit of consuming psyllium husk and bentonite clay during the detox, or at least the later half, is we can add ingredients to that mixture as needed. For example activated charcoal, anti parasite herbs/ ivermectin etc. This then requires colonics but once a day is enough. Colonics are not hard to do and they're not unpleasant.
There’s lot of information online about all this; here’s a good YouTube video on Diatomaceous earth by Dr Berg.
